Health Connect is a unified platform by Google that allows health and fitness apps to securely share and sync data on an Android device. By enabling Health Connect, users can sync health data from multiple sources, streamlining tracking and analysis in one place. The App supports syncing the following trackers from Health Connect: Weight, Height, Steps, Blood Pressure, Calories Burned, Oxygen Level, Blood Sugar, Pulse, Body Fat, Temperature, Menstruation Cycle, Lean Body Mass, Respiratory Rate, Sleep, Metabolic Rate, and Exercise.

This helps streamline users’ data for better tracking and analysis. Health Connect ensures that your privacy and security are maintained, with strict permissions policies in place. This controls which data is shared, making it easier to manage and monitor users’ health in one place.

Prerequisites

1. Device-Specific Access:
  • Health Connect is designed to be device-specific and linked to the primary user account on the device. As a result, only the primary user can use Health Connect to track and share health data. Family members using the same device will not have access to Health Connect or be able to contribute data when logged in as a family user.
  • The app currently supports syncing 17 trackers from Health Connect, provided all trackers are enabled by the Healthcare Provider.
2. Device Compatibility:
  • Your Android Device must be running Android 9 or higher.
  • Android 14 and above: Health Connect is built into the Android system, so no setup is required. You can access it directly via Phone Settings > Health Connect. On your Android phone, go to Settings and then Apps and then Health Connect, and then Open.

  • Android 9 to 13: Health Connect is not integrated into the system. Download and install the Health Connect app from the Google Play Store. Once installed, access it via Phone Settings > Health Connect.

3. Data Sync Limitation:

  • By default, Health Connect allows users to access health data from the past 30 days, starting from the date on which health data permissions are enabled. To sync data older than 30 days, users must explicitly grant permission during the setup process. If permissions are denied, only the last 30 days of data will be synced.

Steps to Sync Health Connect Data

1. Syncing of Health Connect data from My Devices:

  • To enable Health Connect Sync, navigate to My Devices and toggle the Health Connect option to activate syncing of health and fitness data into the health record.
  • Follow on-screen instructions to learn how to manage or delete data.
  • Click “Allow Permissions” and choose the trackers that are enabled by Healthcare Provider for syncing.
  • Tracker Permissions can be updated later by using the “Permissions button in My Devices.
  • Users who need access to data older than 30 days can click “Allow” to enable syncing of extended data.
  • Click “SYNC” to start syncing data. Syncing large amounts of data may take time, but the process will continue in the background.

2. Syncing of Health Connect data from Individual Trackers

To sync Health Connect data from specific trackers:

  • Navigate to the Trackers page.
